It’s your girl Kiki here and the time has come……. The Key 2 Style is officially a LIVE blog but don’t get it twisted….I am STILL claiming my blogger-ish status!
Now the question I am sure you’re asking… because I am too, is, if I’m rocking my blogger-ish status, why am I launching a blog?
And that’s a great question and I guess the answer lies in between “I got something to say” and “ More Plus size bodies doing fabulous ish!” Tyler Perry made a great point on the show Black AF and I it was complete magic to my ears. He said,” Can’t nobody tell you how to be you, I’m talking to us, connecting to us., that’s why my movies go to number 1, because people see themselves.” This statement kinda summed up exactly why I launched The Key 2 Style, because it allows me to share a narrative by me for……. me.
Even in the body positivity movement and the advances that have taken place in the industry, it is still a rare occurrence for me to see a size 24+ body being highlighted and celebrated in the fashion columns and retailers sites. And to be honest, the amount of stories that I see or hear of thirty something black queer folks falling in love and juggling the shenanigans of life together could use some improvement.
That is why I decided to create this space to share my tales, suggestions and overall sass as a plus size black lesbian living in a America. Now, that may or may not connect with you and only you can decide if that is the case.
If you need to figure out if this is the place for you, use the following metrics:
If you’re accustomed to curated posts about how great and perfect life is, then hunni, this is not the space for you.
If you are driven by labels, $600 weaves and designer shoes, then hunni, this not the space for you
If you’re moved more by the idea of catching flights for a photo op oppose to the experience, then hunni, this is not the space for you.
But
If you can accept the honesty that comes from the realness of true life, in all its pretty and ugly glory, then baby, you are home!
If you want to learn how to make thrifting your #bae and how to look cute on a budget, then baby, you are home!
If you to learn how to catch planes, buses, and trains to your next adventure without breaking the bank, then baby, you are home!
